Sometimes when I think about our life I get overwhelmed by what we have gotten through - and then I remember that that is exactly what we did - we got through it. We didn't go around it, under it, over it - through it. And funnily enough - each journey has made us that much stronger - that much tougher - that much more able to survive the next seemingly insurmountable obstacle in our way.
I like to imagine our little rag-tag family as dirt covered range-riders of the old west. The kind that are best viewed in Sepia hues and seem to have a perpetual sunny haze enveloping us. We ride amongst the scrub grass and rocky terrain - permanent scowls on our faces to sheild us from the sun. Our hats droop with dust, our coats and saddles, boots and horses are the same shade of ruddy sand. And we just keep on keeping on.
No songs - just wind - sand - grit really - and that mantle of inevitability that there will, yes there will be, another shoot out somewhere down that future road. And that it will be one more hard fought battle that we will win - but not without another newly pinked scar or two to add to other faded and puckered ones that swath our faces, hand and other places hidden - like our hearts.

And just like in those olden days - we choose not to point out the battles before us or those long in the past - but those who see us - they just know. What else could there possibly be? And just like they know - they know that we will win the next one as well.

Preach it !! You're awesome by the way. This reminds me of every time I get a grey hair and my wife tells me I should use color on it or some crap and I tell her...not going to do it , I've earned'em, they're battle scars.
